Indian lawmaker recalls custody battle

TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2001 Child custody laws in South Dakota need to be reviewed, said state Senator Ron Volesky, who was the subject of a custody fight as a young child. According to The Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Volesky entered a foster home when he was 18 months. When he was four, he was returned to his biological family on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. After two years, his mother was declared unfit to care for Volesky and he was returned to foster care. His foster parents subsequently adopted him. Get the Story:
