In The Hoop
FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2002

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
Lance Morgan - From Native Son to Wanted Man in a matter of days. How quickly we grow up! All this for daring to make money outside of reservation boundaries.

DOI Employees - Why aren't you buying stuff at AllNative.Com with your credit cards? There are some really great deals. Shop today! (If your agency is not cut off from the Internet.)

Joseph S. Kieffer - Auntie Gale hates you just as much as the special monster. Congratulations.

Environmental Groups - At least you get consulted prior. Indian Country gets asked after.

The Losers
State of Kansas - We know your tricks and this is another one of them. Expect a legal battle because you'll lose!

Secretary of Interior Gale Norton - What you're paying for your subordinates to have private counsel: $125 an hour. What you're paying for Joseph S. Kieffer: $250 an hour. Seeing you held in contempt anyway: Priceless.

Jeff Benedict - Of course it's personal. Of course people are being pressured. Of course the good old boys are pulling for the person they want. It's called politics. Get used to it.

The White House - Next week, ANWR will have enough oil to feed the world.

In The Middle
Indian Country - Violent crime is dropping slightly. Can we keep it up?

Narragansett Tribe - Will you ever get that casino? Not unless you sign up with Harrah's, it seems!

College Campuses - Give up drinking? Give up sex first!

Bush Judges - Republicans didn't confirm Clinton's picks either. Don't think Democrats are nice people and will start holding hearings for you now.
