In The Hoop
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2002

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
Verna Many Snags - Where's our eagle feather daubber? You stole it from us last time we saw you at the Coolville Casino. Give it back!

Seminole Nation - It looks like you took that bid for $72,000. What's next? Smoke shop? Casino? We think it might be another investigation.

National Indian Gaming Commission - You finally won a case. In The Hoop is shocked.

Tribes - It's about time you walked away from discussions on trust standards and independent oversight. The real question is, why did it take so long?

The Losers
Connecticut - What a surprise, another challenge. And this amendment from Dodd and Lieberman is just as offensive as what Skeen and Dicks did to Indian trust. Get your own "house" in order first.

Rebekah Revels - Sorry about the Miss America thing. You're still an Indian princess somewhere!

Muwekma Ohlone Tribe - Termination is apparently still alive at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Crow Nation - All this trouble hurts the people the most. This almost makes us want to bring good ole Clara back.

In The Middle
Nebraska Gaming - The petition to expand gaming might be in the air but a certain tribe is about to stir up some real trouble. Watch for it real soon now.

Ed McGaa - Don't blame this Indian for losing the race. Greens have self-esteem issues it seems.

Yakama business owners - We hope you'll mount a Supreme Court challenge. There's nothing to lose.

Multimedia Games - Just wait until Phil Hogen comes in. You'll wish Montie were back in town.
