APRIL 2, 2001

The Zapatista rebels who made a two-week journey to Mexico City to champion an Indian rights bill returned to their home base in Chiapas on Sunday.

A group of supporters welcomed them back to San Cristobal, one of the six towns seized by the rebels seven years ago on January 1, 1994.

The Zapatistas are planning on rallying more support to see that the bill is passed by Congress. The delegation made an address to lawmakers last Wednesday in support of the bill.
