Kimi Pernia, an international indigenous rights activist, was abducted by leftist guerrillas in Colombia on Sunday, said a lawmaker.

Pernia had been helping local indigenous communities fight a hydroelectric plant from being built on their land.

A guerilla group in March 1999 killed three Indian activists from the United States. No one has been brought to justice for the deaths of Terence Freitas, Lahe'ena'e Gay, and Ingrid Washinawatok.
