TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2001

Human Rights Watch on Monday released a report detailing the abuses of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a guerilla group which has been tied to the deaths and disappearances of Indians and indigenous activists.

Human Rights Watch already submitted the report to Manuel Marulanda, leader of FARC. The report particularly criticizes FARC for being responsible for the March 1999 deaths of Terence Freitas, Lahe'ena'e Gay, and Ingrid Washinawatok, Native American activists who were helping the Uwa Tribe fight oil development on ancestral land.
