Justice in rural Mexico can be harsh, as reported by The Washington Post, which recounts the story of how a Mixtec Indian community buried a man alive as retribution for the killing of another.

According to the report, a group of elders decided the sentence for the man. When asked by a reporter about the incident later, the men "debated for 20 minutes in their Indian language" and decided to lie about what happened.
