Town to keep talking to Pequot Tribe

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2001

Although he has been abandoned by his colleagues, Preston First Selectman Robert Congdon says his town will continue to meet with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to discuss trust land.

Congdon says he may not personally approve of the tribe's proposal on the issue. But he didn't want to break his promise to meet with the tribe because the tribe has held up its end of the bargain.

The tribe issued a statement Tuesday saying it was disappointed that the towns of Ledyard and North Stonington have abandoned talks.
