MONDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2001

Tribal leaders in Montana on Friday praised Governor Judy Martz's efforts to reach out to tribes in the state.

At a forum in Helena held on State / Tribal Relations Day, various tribal leaders said they were pleased Martz has taken the initiative to meet with tribes. In the past, they said, tribes have always had to seek out governors.

Fulfilling one of her campaign promises, Martz took a tour of all the state's reservations over the summer, meeting with tribal members and officials.
