THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2001 Hoping to prevent Indians from moving into their neighborhood, a group of whites in Washington are trying to terminate the Suquamish Tribe. The Suquamish Tribe was improperly recognized by the federal government, the group says in a lawsuit filed in federal court. When Congress brought allotment to the Port Madison Reservation, it destroyed the tribal nature of the Suquamish people, they say. The group lives on the reservation but are fighting a housing development that would be located near their houses. Get the Story:
