WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2001

Twelve people have been sentenced to one year of probation and fined $500 for pleading guilty to participating in Arizona's largest investigation of bootlegging.

The operation took place on the Navajo Nation and in nearby communities, said authorities. After a four-month investigation, 21 people were arrested.

The judge who sentenced the group on Tuesday said they were "killing" Navajo culture.
