Town to discuss Pequot recommendation
NOVEMBER 16, 2000

The town of North Stonington today will meet with one of its paid consultants over his recommendation that they mediate with three local Pequot tribes.

In a planning report for the town, Joel Russell recommended negotiating with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and two state-recognized tribes over various issues. But the town took offense at the suggestion, because they oppose expansion of the Mashantucket reservation and federal recognition of the Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot tribes.

The town has called on Russell to remove his recommendation from their report.
