Suit against Oneida leader thrown out

JANUARY 12, 2001 A Oneida Nation tribal court judge on Wednesday threw out a lawsuit brought against leader Ray Halbritter by his critics. The judge said the court doesn't have jursdiction over political or membership questions. Policies instituted under Halbritter have been protested by the group of 19 who say they are being forced to leave their homes because they criticized the policies. The group plans on appealing the case to a tribal appellate court. The case may eventually end up in federal court. Get the Story:
