Woman acquitted of child abuse charges

JANUARY 12, 2001

A federal jury on Thursday found Bertha Black Eagle not guilty of abusing a 6-month-old girl who suffered a brain injury under her care.

Black Eagle had been accused of shaking the baby. But her defense asserted the baby's older sister dropped her, leading to injuries.
