Voters of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation go to the polls this Sunday in order to choose three new tribal councilors.

Elections to the council are staggered. Three incumbents face 15 challengers.

One of the incumbents includes Anthony Beltran, who earlier told the tribe he would not seek re-election, due to personal reasons, which some say are linked to his legal troubles. But he changed his mind.

Challenger Christopher M. Pearson, grandson of Elizabeth George, the woman known locally for her defense of the tribe's tiny reservation, is running for a seat. He is currently completing his MBA at Harvard and says he has the business and teamwork skills to do a good job on the council.
