JANUARY 18, 2001 Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday asked about 200 town leaders to help support his call for $1.3 million to oversee federal recognition and land claims of tribes in the state. Governor John G. Rowland has denied the request for additional funds so Blumenthal is seeking money from the legislature. Of the amount, $1 million would be used to hire genealogists, historians, and anthropologists to monitor the recognition process. The rest would be used to hire legal staff to aid his office in tribal issues. Get the Story:
