FEBRUARY 23, 2001

Kirk Douglas Billie was convicted of second-degree murder by a Florida court on Thursday and his lawyer plans to appeal the decision.

Billie was convicted in the deaths of his two young sons. Investigation of the murder was thwarted by the Miccosukee Tribe, who were able to prevent federal and state authorities from entering the reservation to interview and subpoena witnesses.

Billie is a member of the tribe but the crime of which he was convicted yesterday occurred off the reservation.
