MARCH 14, 2001

Controversial Citizen Potawatomi Chairman John "Rocky" Barrett has drawn a contender for the upcoming tribal elections in June: one of the tribe's former employees.

Esther Lowden formerly managed the tribal museum gift shop. She was terminated when Chairman Barrett's executive powers were reinstated by the tribal court in February.

Chairman Barrett claims that the museum gift shop lost $400,000 over 5 years. Lowden claims that she was not responsible for those losses.

Her election campaign began before she was terminated from her gift shop tenure.
