MARCH 21, 2001 The off-again, on-again struggle of Connecticut to find the original map delineating the boundaries of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's reservation continued on Tuesday, when the National Archives said it didn't have the prized document. The Archives suggested Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz search for the map at the House Committee of Resources. Bysiewicz's office is supposed to be the caretaker of the map. The map was drawn up as part of the Congress' 1983 settlement with the tribe. The map defined the new borders of the tribe's reservation and local opponents of the tribe say it proves they were given more land than they deserved. The reservation was created in the 17th century by the state and was originally about 2,000 acres. The state eventually sold off most of the reservation, leaving about 300. The 1983 law created a reservation of about 2,000 acres. Get the Story:
