MARCH 21, 2001

The Salt-River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community decided against selling liquor outside of its casino facilities on Tuesday.

The voting members of the tribe decided against the action by 466-152. The initiative was designed to lure more upscale restaurants and grocery stores to the area.

A large number of teenagers turned out to the polls, reported The Arizona Republic. There are approximately 6,900 members who live on the reservation.
