MARCH 29, 2001

Vickie "Grandma" Epperson, a 73-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico, woman, on Wednesday pleaded no contest to trafficking heroin and will be sent to six years in prison.

It wasn't Epperson's first conviction, though. She was convicted for the same crime in her late 60s.

This conviction stems from an arrest last summer in which she provided heroin to an undercover officer. Her then 15-year-old grandson was also implicated in the deal. Her daughter has also been convicted of trafficking heroin.

Epperson uses a walker. A narcotics prosecutor said she might suffer from diabetes.
