Recognition study won't address gaming

A Republican-ordered General Accounting Office (GAO) study of federal recognition won't address related issues of gaming, freshman Congressman Robert Simmons (R-Conn) said on Wednesday.

Simmons has thrown his support behind the investigation, however. A number of Republican lawmakers last fall called for it and the GAO says it is expected to be completed late summer.

The Republicans later amended their request by asking that gaming issues be addressed. But Simmons said only the history of recognition will be addressed.
