APRIL 20, 2001

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission on Thursday fined a beer establishment in Whiteclay $1,000 for selling alcohol to an intoxicated person.

The Commission also suspended the license of Mike's Pioneer Service for 20 days.

The action is part of an increased presence of law enforcement in the border town. Oglala Lakota activists from the nearby Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota allege authorities have failed to go after liquor violations in the town.

The establishments serve primarily to reservation residents.
