MAY 10, 2001

Governor Gary Locke on Wednesday signed into law applying state cigarette taxes to 14 tribes.

The tribes are now required to collect the state's 82.5 cent per pack tax. The tax will go to the tribes, however, to pay for government services.

Some of the larger tribes, such as the Puyallup Tribe, aren't covered by the bill.
