MAY 22, 2000 Connecticut lawmakers on Capitol Hill will meet to discuss issues raised by the three towns of Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston. The towns oppose the expansion of the Mashantucket Pequot reservation and federal recognition for the Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot tribes. Senators Christopher Dodd (D Conn) and Joseph Liberman (D Conn) said they will look into allegations surrounding the Mashantucket and the pending recognition of the other Pequots, but that there are no easy answers. Representative Sam Gejdenson (D Conn) said the lawmakers have plans to meet with the town officials. The towns submitted a 30-page letter to lawmakers and the Department of Interior last week, voicing their concerns. Get the Story:
