Oglala still protest govt

MAY 22, 2000 Over 100 days ago, 100 Oglala Lakota still occupy the a tribal government building in Pine Ridge on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. The Grass Roots Oyate took over to protest corruption in the IRA instituted government and have called for a return to a more traditional, Lakota government, based on the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie. Meanwhile, the IRA council continues to do business. Vice President Wilbur Between Lodges holds office in the bingo lodge. Get the Story:
