Sharon Lindley's official title within the Alaska Court System is "cultural navigator." She helps Yup'ik who appear in court or need court services, providing translation and explanation of the court system, considered to be alien in culture and process to the Yup'ik way of life. About 85 percent of the population in Bethel and its surrounding villages are Yup'ik.
