MAY 22, 2001 Two anti-Indian, anti-sovereignty, and anti-treaty rights groups are again making the protest rounds. Upstate Citizens for Equality (UCE) of New York held a protest in Albany on Monday, demanding the state enforce gaming and taxation laws on reservations. They say Governor George Pataki is ignoring recent court rulings. Another group called Citizens Equal Rights Alliance (CERA) is in Washington, DC, this week, hoping to convince the Bush administration and other lawmakers about the evils of land-into-trust and other sovereignty issues. CERA has ties to violent groups of the 1970s which fought the fishing rights of tribes in Washington and Ojibwe tribes in the Great Lakes. CERA also has ties to UCE. Get the Story:
