Ashcroft to oppose more McVeigh delays

MAY 31, 2001

Attorney General John Ashcroft on Wednesday said he will oppose any attempt by convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh to seek a delay of his scheduled execution.

McVeigh's lawyers today will file papers to delay the June 11 execution, the first federal one in decades, unless he stops them. Their basis for a stay is the thousands of pages of documents the FBI withheld and only recently produced.
