MAY 3, 2001 Three Connecticut towns who who are challenging the federal recognition petitions of two Pequot tribes want the federal Office of Government Ethics to weigh in on their decision to hire Kay Davis, a former Bureau of Indian Affairs researcher who worked directly with the tribes. The lawyers for the towns asked the OGE to determine if Davis is violating federal ethics laws. In a letter, they argue their hiring of her is appropriate. The Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe say it is unethical for the towns to have hired Davis. The towns have paid at least $20,000 to Davis and Michael Lawson, another former researcher. Get the Story:
