Tribe seeks return of land

JUNE 19, 2001 The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma on Monday filed suit seeking more than 1,920 acres of land near Kansas City, Kansas. Named in the lawsuit are the Kansas City government and a number of private owners. The tribe says the land belongs to them under an 1855 treaty. The tribe has been trying to open a casino in Kansas but is being opposed by the governor and the federally recognized tribes in the state. Get the Story:
