JUNE 22, 2001

The Connecticut town of Preston is reconsidering some of its positions on an ongoing land dispute with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

While town leaders said they still oppose the tribe seeking additional trust lands, they say they might break with two other towns on how to negotiate the issue. Along with Ledyard and North Stonington, Preston is talking with the tribe about how to resolve their differences.

Additionally, the town will hold a voter referendum to see how residents feel about the land-into-trust issue.
