Towns: Show us the map
JUNE 26, 2000

The towns of Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston are demanding that the Connecticut Secretary of State locate the original map delineating the boundaries of the Mashantucket Pequot reservation. The map was used in passing the 1983 Mashantucket Pequot Settlement Act.

The towns believe the map shows boundaries larger than the tribe deserved and that Congress was misled in passing the act. Jackson King, the attorney for the tribe who drew the map's outlines, has said the map and the legislation correspond exactly.

According to The New London Day, a copy of the map is at the Secretary's office, but the original has not been located.
