The US Attorneys office in Nebraska on Wednesday delayed the announcement of homicide charges in the case of an Omaha Nation tribal member found beaten to death last week.

Instead, officials said charges in the death of Brandon Horn, 21, would be made public today. The FBI added that significant progress had been made since federal and tribal authorities began investigating the crime last Saturday.

A special evidence response team was sent to the Omaha Reservation in northeastern Nebraska on Saturday night after the death was reported. Horn was found in a field north of Macy, a reservation town.

The FBI would neither confirm nor deny the existence of a videotape of the alleged attack. The FBI does not discuss case evidence, said a spokesperson.

Since the crime occurred on a reservation and the suspects -- including some juveniles -- are reported to be tribal members, the homicide would fall under the Major Crimes Act. Authorities had no immediate knowledge of recent homicides on the reservation.

Horn was buried in Macy yesterday.
