JUNE 5, 2000 The Connecticut towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston criticized their Congressional delegate Representative Sam Gejdenson after a meeting the Congressman held on Friday to discuss the town's opposition to the expansion of the Mashantucket Pequot reservation. Gejdenson again defended his role in pushing the 1983 Mashantucket Settlement Act through Congress, focusing on the need to quiet non-Indian fears and concerns. While he said the Pequots should provide documentation about their genealogy to the public, he avoided endorsing a call for a Congressional investigation into the matter, leaving leaders of the three towns disgusted an angry with Gejdenson for paying "lip service" to them.
