JULY 10, 2000 On July 7, Lancaster County District Judge Bernard J McGinn removed himself from the panel that will resentence Randy Reeves, Omaha tribe of Nebraska. Reeves was sentenced to die for the murders of two women in 1980. In January, the Nebraska Supreme Court overturned his sentence naming McGinn and two other judges to a panel to decide his new sentence. Citing that judges must avoid bias and appearances of bias, McGinn removed himself from the panel because he was the chief deputy in the Lancaster County attorney's office during Reeves' prosecution.
