Navajo election in doubt

JULY 12, 2000

The Navajo Nation Intergovernmental Relations Committee passed a resolution on July 10, appropriating $153,000 in funds to pay for the tribe's upcoming general election on August 1. But the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors last month voted to move the election to October 3.

The Board has to approve the appropriation and new date but Tribal Council Delegate Wallace Charley of Shiprock said approval is unlikely.
