Utah wants to end trust responsibility

FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2001 Utah Governor Mike Leavitt this week told Navajo Nation President Kelsey Begaye that his state wants to end its trust repsonsibility for a $20 million oil royalty trust fund. The Navajo Trust Fund is the responsibility of the state due to a 1933 law. It brings in about $2.5 million annually. The fund is the subject of a lawsuit alleging financial mismanagement by the state of Utah. Get the Story:
