The Colorado Attorney General will be aiding local prosecutors in the beating death of a 16-year-old Navajo teenager.

The Montezuma County District Attorney asked for the state's help in prosecuting first-degree murder charges against Shaun Murphy, 18.

Murphy is accused of beating Fred C. Martinez Jr. to death in June. The crime is being labeled a hate crime because Martinez was Navajo and gay / transgendered.
