TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2001

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut and three neighboring towns met for the third time on Monday to discuss a dispute over trust lands.

The meeting ended with town leaders saying they had many unanswered questions on a settlement proposed by the tribe. The tribe says it will limit its land-into-trust applications to 880 acres for the next 35 years.

The tribe is also offering to pay for taxes on trust property and adhere to local zoning and planning regulations.

The tribe's legal staff will be working on a document on the settlement. Meanwhile, town leaders by Friday will submit a list of questions for the tribe to answer in preparation for an August 30 meeting.
