Native corps to get $39M for land

TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2001 Four Alaska Native corporations will receive $39 million to settle a dispute over 218,683 acres of land in and around the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. Calista Corp., chartered under federal law, will receive $27 million. Kuskokwim Corp., Nunapiglluraq Corp. and NIMA Corp., all village corporations, will receive the rest. The government gets title and surface rights to just 30,000 acres while the village corporations get surface rights on 162,000 acres. Calista will give up 10,000 acres of land outside the refuge.
