Navajo resisters angry at Hopi Tribe

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2001 A group of Navajo families who have refused to sign an agreement with the Hopi Tribe are angry about the recent bulldozing of a site they say is religious. The Navajo families have been holding a Sun Dance on Hopi land for a number of years. The ceremony was imported from the Lakota Nation. The Hopi Tribe last week bulldozed the site being used for the ceremony. The land is Hopi-owned but the Navajo families refuse to accept the jurisdiction of the tribe. Get the Story:
