Interior won't investigate Gover claims

AUGUST 29, 2000 On Monday, the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Interior ruled that three Connecticut towns failed to show that Kevin Gover, Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs, has a conflict of interest in the federal recognition of two Pequot tribes in the state. Gover was the former lawyer for the Golden Hill Paugusett tribe, whose federal recognition petition has been delayed until next year. The towns allege that Gover is using the Pequot decisions to set a precedent for his former client. Get the Story:
