MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2001 Former Assistant Secretary Kevin Gover tonight will participate in a debate on tribal sovereignty with a traditional foe of Indian Country. In an appearance that will be aired on the National Public Radio "Justice Talking" later this fall, Gover will face off against Tom Gede, Executive Director of the Conference of Western Attorneys General. States have typically been the opponents of tribes on taxation, land-into-trust, sovereign immunity, gaming, law enforcement and a host of other issues. The debate will take place at the Continuing Education Conference Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, located at 1634 University Boulevard NE. The public will be able to ask questions of Gover and Gede. The debate, called "Nations Within: The Conflict of Native American Sovereignty," takes place at 7:30 pm Mountain Standard Time.
