SEPTEMBER 18, 2000 Connecticut state police are investigating if documents currently in possession of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation were illegaly obtained from archives. Some 11 manuscripts are being examined. Criminal charges are possible, but Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said the tribe might have unwittingly purchased the documents from someone else who stole them. The tribe and the state are meeting on Friday to discuss the papers, as well as protection and preservation of historic documents. Get the Story:
