Potentially setting a precedent for protection of privacy in the workplace, the Judicial Conference of United States Courts on Wednesday agreed to strike language deemed too restrictive from the Internet-use policies at all federal courts.

Previously, the policy said judges and employees had no right to privacy when surfing the web or using e-mail. But a group of judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals objected and disabled software being used to track online usage.

The policy still says the the web shouldn't be used to surf pornographic sites, to gamble or download MP3s and other media files.
