SEPTEMBER 27, 2000 The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will come together once again and hold a joint council meeting next month in Cherokee, North Carolina. Earlier this year, a delegation from Oklahoma traveled back to the traditional homeland of the Cherokee. Visiting New Echota, the historic capital of the Cherokee Nation, proved emotional for many, said the tribe. "I was proud because of what our people had accomplished," said council member Barbara Starr-Scott. "We were such an advanced society. I also felt sadness because of what our ancestors had to give up." The meeting will take place October 7 and 13 of 15 members of the council will make the trip to North Carolina. The two plan on continuing the relationship they established earlier this year. Relevant Links:
