SEPTEMBER 8, 2000

The Crow Tribe of Montana may be facing a crisis in leadership, less than two months after a new slate of officials were elected after controversial chairwoman Clara Nomee was ousted in

Secretary Tilton Old Bull, Sr. told The Billings Gazette that advisors are making the decisions instead of the new chairman Clifford Bird. He also said there is "wild spending" by tribal employees.

The tribe's spokesman said growing pains are natural when a new administration takes over.
