A Connecticut group claiming to be a sovereign tribe is still battling with local officials over a buliding it owns that has been cited for numerous building and zoning violations.

Norwich city housing inspectors made a visit to the property on Wednesday. They were told to leave by Grand Sachem Moigu Standing Bear because he said local officials have no authority over property belonging to the Mohegan Tribe and Nation Inc., Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot American Indian Nation and Affiliated Tribes.

The tribe claims it has been federally recognized by a Connecticut Supreme Court decision. The city isn't buying the explanation and cited the group for additional violations, now totalling $6,450, according to The New London Day.
