Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal recently wrote a letter to a Congressman holding hearings on the federal recognition process and said state and local governments need more input into tribal issues.

According to The Norwich Bulletin's account of the letter, Blumenthal specifically pointed out lack of non-Indian input in land-into-trust. He said states and local governments need help from the federal government to deal with trust land and federal recognition.

The letter was sent to Rep. Doug Ose (R-Calif.), chairman of the Energy Policy, Natural Resources and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee. The subcommittee is holding a hearing next week on a bill to reform the federal recognition process at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
